Village becomes Town
====================
Our Eldest's Column
-------------------
Maybe the priestesses are on to something. Maybe the little folk aren't cut out to fight over cities, maybe we should return to our rural, village roots. Every city we occupy is soon conquered, but a village we occupy, (and sell to) just became a town, and the towns we are selling to have been growing.
Now that the village has become a town, now the marketplace doesn't just want raw materials, now it wants finished goods. Fashioned from wood. Wood? Wood. Sigh. How about some nice stone crossbows? No? Iron crossbows then? Maybe there is a magical track that will let me turn stone into wood?
Assistant Editor's Column
-------------------------
My job is supposed to be to collect my columnists' columns, not to write filler when they aren't done on time. I'm beginning to wish we had not fired the previous assistant editor.
Religion Column
---------------
The governors ask us to investigate the herbal teas used by the mithril clad ones (who might be the Thane's Ring Spirits, we are not sure). We suspect the best of these teas are made with mushrooms. Searching for the secrets of mushrooms, we soon encountered the writings of Beastmasters, the oldest and most experienced mycologist of the factions that presently live in this world. From our arrival, Beastmasters have apparently been searching for the mushrooms Our Eldest asks the priests to study.
So you can imagine our distress when, last month, Beastmasters describes in the Times disappointment with the mushrooms in this world. We had hoped that tea and biscuits would be an irresistable pull back into this plane of existence from the next one. But it seems that is not to be.
Maybe it would work better with better biscuits?
Governors' Column
-----------------
We dealt with the Ogres. Lots of unarmed littlefolk died. We have asked our priests to investigate those herbal teas the mithril clad ones drink after battle. Or maybe we should just distribute this heavy pile of swords.
Ogres killed an unarmed toolmaker in Warringgrove. His wife (also unarmed) killed an Ogre. (It must have already been injured.) A large number of unarmed civilians do seem to help our armies. Perhaps we should give them all basic combat training, so they can learn from the experience? Or maybe just give the civilians some of this ridiculously heavy pile of swords?
We have heard rumors that armor would be helpful, even armor not made of Thane silver. Some of the armor seems too heavy for goblins and gnolls to carry, but perhaps we can make lighter armor that they can wear. Of course, if wearing armor and carrying a weapon, a shield is then too heavy. Perhaps goblins really need camels to fight?
Peace Column
------------
The Thane silver clad ones replaced the city guard of Zelotatres this month. We heard a single rumor about a peacemaker, then nothing. Is there a peacemaker or not? Are the Thane silver clad ones who liberated Zelotatres the peacemaker? Does all this war now going on around us end in peace? Soon?
Eastern Column
--------------
Great Horde tells us undead should return to their graves. Sometimes we agree. The little folk mostly see undead coming out of graves, not going in.
LFLF Column
-----------
Our Eldest cowers inside the ring of Good Mr. Hagen's armies, not helping the little folk dying at the frontier. The ogres wouldn't have killed so many little folk if Our Eldest were there helping them.
Tea, biscuits, and discussions of little folk strategy this month at the little folk liberation front meeting near you.
Obituary Column
---------------
Droann of Lurgdor, the oldest little folk academic and our eldest's tutor in non-magical arts, starved to death in Warrington last month. An accounting error left everyone without food, and the most senior of the little folk shared equally with the youngest; all went hungry together.
Urist and Erin were slain by an ice dragon and 4 yeti last month. Urist and Erin must have become fearsome warriors indeed for the ice dragon to think the 4 yeti necessary.

The council of the Four Winds pondered the statistics. If they were in the top 10 for swords, then how come their armies didn't seem impressive? Perhaps shiny armour was needed, or a bigger number of cavalry.
The Children of the Four Winds (40)
Well, well. It should have been done a long time ago. I didn't want to deprive this world of another faction. All factions have value for the development of Atlantis, but there can be no sense from fools. Sorry, boy, your days in this world are numbered.
Alwengos (41)
He screwed up again. A stupid loss. But it finally convinced him of the need to clean up the Durnazg. And I told him that you can't forgive Stupid Fools! Some diseases can be cured only with a sharp knife. Even stupidity and self-confidence... A sharp knife to the throat.

Looking at the scrolls, Peter scratches his head. The reports are confusing: his friends report some losses, but his scouts can't confirm this. Peter suspects that his scouts simply haven't reached far enough, but the reports are still disturbing. Hopefully, the latest developments will not cause the rest of his plans to unravel. Ah, well, there is nothing more to be done about it right now; better to continue working on arming his forces and then take out the undead that have been the thorn in his side.

Rumors
10 flaming swords?
The murderers of the order of the Holden Witnesses sect got to the Patriarch. The seat in the Patriarch's lavatory was treated with poison. The poison acted instantly. The patriarch died like an asshole. Mourning has been declared in all the churches of the Church of the Holy Deed of Holden.
--------
After successfully taking revenge on the patriarch, the Order of Holden's Witnesses sect declared the Lord of the Northern Lands its next target.
--------
The army of Holden's Holy Deed Church is stuck in the swamps on the border of the Great Desert. Poor supplies and rampant drunkenness led to a complete loss of combat capability. However, the army Commander insists on continuing the campaign in the name of the glory of the church.
--------
The Lord of the Northern Lands sent a detachment of knights under the command of his youngest son, the Duke of Akrogon to meet the army of the Church of the Holy Deed of Holden to disperse idlers and parasites. The young Duke is determined to find glory in the battle with the drunks.
