As the troops cheered for the slaying of the dragon, the archers ran out to retrieve lost arrows. The battle was surprisingly easy as three armies had come to kill it. The other two armies had picked over the dragon's cave in the mountains and looted all the silver coins that made up the dragon's pillow. One lone trooper tripped over something while searching for arrows - it was an old brass lamp. He took it home, it might make a nice gift for his mother.

It was an epic battle. The sun was setting when our troops finally cornered the fleeing giant, covered in blood and with quivering with terror, and the marksman put an arrow through his eye, ending his reign of terror.
Scratch that, it was ugly. We were counting on the element of surprise, but he saw us coming for a mile and devastated our lines with a powerful bolt. After that, the troops still able to move scrambled to close with him and a few lucky blows gave us the day. Not looking forward to repeat it again.

1st of September Year 3

The army is bored so Bohica organized a manhunt. I mean elfhunt. Whatever. Two unfortunate cartographers were chased down and put to the sword by our main army just because they happened to be in the area. She said the troops needed the training. What training can they get from running after two scouts all day I ask. I guess endurance.

10th of September Year 3

Regdan created another staff. He's getting quite proficient. It looks exactly the same as mine but now I can tell mine apart form the other. Bohica says I have properly bonded with my weapon. I can't wait to try it out in actual combat.

17th of September Year 3

We are sailing north again. A new ice dragon appeared in the lair where we killed the old one. Furious beast. Maybe it's the mate of the one we killed? Our scout did not have time to find out before he was consumed by the beast. So we're sailing back north to find out.

25th of September Year 3

We arrived to our old campsite. The crypts are empty but the dragon in the neighborhood will be a good sport. Admiralty also decided to clear the magetower to the northeast. We'll be quite busy next month.

Our supply management, for the lack of a better word, sucks. Now we have too many swords. It has been suggested we make picket fences out of them. Pointy end up for the not nice neighbours. Pointy end down where we need something to lean on, whilst conversing with friendlies.

Alfonso the smuggler and notorious evader of VAT, having entered the sewers of the holy city while dragging a ton of contraband chocolate... thought he heard footsteps all round ...

His mind was racing... He'd best be very quiet now. The Order couldn't possibly be on to him. He'd illicitly traded chocolate here for months and had nothing but contempt for those who paid the Order's perfectly reasonable and fair 15% luxury tax. All that extra profit for him and none for those who kept the city safe for trade. He thought the Order were pompous jackasses with their dromedaries and their robes and their high priests wearing ludicrously oversized headgear to make themselves look like giants... Useless buffoons. Well and their swords and crossbows and undead corps and catapults... But still lacking subtlety and artifice. And that eagle won't help much in the sewer, haha! Any faction who put that moron Count von Count who can barely count to five in charge of one of their fortresses deserve to not have their taxes paid by Alfonso the genius and magnificent mage and master of the teleport spell. Alfonso chortled with glee thinking of the wealth this run was going to bring. Oh no, best be quiet, silent as the grave, he thought to himself. Maybe it's time for that once-per-decade maintenance project on this section. What'll the workers think if they discovered him down here? He figured a quick fireball spell would keep them permanently quiet, and hopefully no one would see or hear through the drainage grates.

Little did he know that his activities were long monitored and scrupulously documented. While the Order's patience and mercy were vast as the sea, not even the largest ocean is unbounded by shores. Nergal's arm of justice was on to him and preparing to strike a mighty blow! The Order Secret Police impounded a hundred illegal chocolate bars, took dozens of witness statements, established irrefutable proof - M prides himself on how his command (almost) never made a false accusation, lest the torturers extract a false confession.

Just in case someone was here, Alfonso thought he'd best duck into this side corridor. The city sewer system was constructed centuries ago, by some long-gone society that preceded the remaking of the surface and the closure of the underworld. The holy city, like all large ones on the cylinder, was built on the foundations of a previous city, even if nothing above ground remained. Yet, no one in the third age of the world had ever succeeded in making a map of the sewer, neither the authorities, nor the smugglers. Even the maintenance workers just improvised - when Alfonso attempted to buy a map from them, they said the system changed on its own like it was alive. Superstitious lunatics, he thought at the time, but seeing how different things looked now, maybe it's true?

Oh but is this gate locked? And still - is he really hearing footsteps approaching from behind? Hmm... Maybe... Maybe this branch passageway will lead to his escape back to a core tunnel or to a surface manhole...

Will this slippery sewer eel escape the customs officers' grasp again? We won't find out until next turn!
