Our Eldest's Column
-------------------

We are pleased that some of Stormspike survived, and flattered by their Times articles. But we doubt the end is so near as Stormspike suggests. Yes, there is a powerful, rapidly expanding alliance, and to those of us located nearby, the end may indeed be near. But for most of the world, far from this new alliance, capitals are still mostly safe. Not completely peaceful, there are assassinations, and squabbles with monsters or other powers at the frontier, but for most of the world, we think capital cities are still safe. We think in most of the world, nobles regale each other with tales of their latest monster hunt, or brag about how advanced their mages are in their studies, or what fearsome war machines they have assembled. But in most of the world, we think those war machines are still idle. We think this world will endure for quite awhile yet.

Religion Column
---------------

(by the High Priestess)

One of the old goblins asked me after last months speech to our orcs "If the gods want war, why did they make goblins and gnomes unable to fight?". I told her that the gods gave goblins many gifts. They gave us painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry and porcelain for times of peace. And they gave us weaponsmith for times of war. If only the gods had given goblins any wood or ironwood, then goblins could also use crossbows for war.

LFLF Column
-----------

The independent southern little folk have found a large rural area more than a month distant from any settlement of any size. If cities are too dangerous to occupy, perhaps distant wilderness will prove safer? We are moving our cookie bakeries now.

Old Guard Column
----------------

The town of Yazhdur is still held by the old City Guard. Peaceful place. Many factions meet there, but none have brought armies to contest the guards.
The City Guard of Stockwood were recently defeated by the Vanir, so Stockwood is no longer held by the old City Guard.

City Column
-----------

On the "end is near" side of the world, here are some city names, past and present.

Akrogonakos Ampeleryx Aoratarx Aoratelos Birmingmoor Blackfield Colgrove Epikataraskalos Epikatarirmos Ereuneryx Garaknizil Hekonoatres Hernefield Horsham Humham Hymnoarenos Hymnoaros Lurgdor Lurgubal Maidenvil Maranarotes Marmere Ogbuz Perikaskalos Perikirmos Quag'o'gauq Rome Smyrnoakos Stanmoor Stockham Stockwood Ugnazg Urgdur Volwaz Windgrove Zelotatres

Some of these cities now have numbers in front of their names.

Do cities have more interesting names on the peaceful side of the world?

Peace Column
------------

The little folk peace columnist wishes he could step into a gate that took him through the center of the world to the directly opposite side.
The factions little folk have met least (the ones from the far side) write that it is quiet, or that they are busy hunting merfolk, undead, demons, and other monsters. They peacefully explore and build fleets. The factions the little folk have known longest are dying. They write that "life in this world is coming to an end". Their capital cities are falling one after another. Perhaps life really is more peaceful on the opposite side of the world.

In the near term, this columnist sees no hope for peace on this side of the world. All this columnist sees are preparations for war. Perhaps peace will come after the war has run its course? Will the line of battle move away from us, or back and forth across the same cities?

Why did we enter on the war side of the world, and not the peace side?

Martiniks Trade Guild (43)
Utuk'ku kept nodding in assent to the dissertation of the young sister. Truly this world has been made more interesting by the presence of the strong alliance of five, and certainly they know their way better than anyone she had met. She has fist hand evidence of their brutal efficiency, and the variety of their methods to achieve their goals.

The proposal of an alliance of 23 is intriguing. There is no practical way to coordinate such numbers, but there may be a way to achieve the tangible result of challenging the big five. The simplest one would be to choose one single faction to rally to, and from Utuk'ku point of view, the Little Folk are one of the better choices. The dedication that they have demonstrated to this world is uncanny, and she has yet to find a faction they may have offended.

If you want to think the other way, would not it be fun if a newcomer actually takes the crown?

If anyone thinks it's possible to remain neutral, they are mistaken. Thane's Ring will either bully you to raname settlements in their favour or just take them by force with a sneak attack. Obviously mages pose a threat to their plan so if you think that keeping your magic users in one place, most likely a city, your're wrong - it's just an invitation for assassins.

Tuesday story.

Writing good story by any of Ogre Mages isn't possible.
Various reasons but mostly the minds aren't shaped for this.
We value good story as good story is simply good.
We value good fortifications, offense spells, some not obvious but good spells.
But do Ogres like ice and snow ? Yes we do. That's example.
We hold all 'little writings' from the north in our library.
Hopefully northern events won't stop the flow.
We learn, we twist, we shape, we enjoy.
