In second March of year 4, someone broke in the great magical tower that vikings had built in Blackfield's city and assassinated Huscarl, the first viking that arrived in this world.
Workers reported that doors had opened without anyone touching them, proving that assassin had used magical invisibility ring.
This event angered many in faction and although search for assassin was unsuccessful, the viking leaders had some idea which factions did possess such magical rings and which did not and some expeditionary punishing forces were sent in the direction of those that did.

Our Eldest's Column
-------------------

Orc Hunters accused Good Mr. Hagen of bullying others to vote for them. Is this really true? Is there really any city in the world that has been bullied by Good Mr. Hagen into voting for him? The little folk haven't seen this. We have seen cities conquered, but so far, none suborned. Are we looking in the wrong places, or is this a false accusation?

Orc Hunters have also accused Good Mr. Hagen of employing sneak attacks. This accusation seems more likely to be true. It is unclear to me whether sneak attacks are unsporting or not; the Times are filled with accounts of successful assassinations every month, and if Good Mr. Hagen is really responsible for all of these assassinations, we should all probably surrender now. But my guess, from the locations where they occur, is that at least some of these assassinations are authored by someone other than Good Mr. Hagen. Is all sneakiness a bad thing, or is only the sneakiness of Good Mr. Hagen and his allies a bad thing?

From the accounts we have read so far of Good Mr. Hagen's attacks, it appears that for now at least, he and his allies could win even without being sneaky. That alliance could call out in advance what city they would take next, and we wouldn't race there to defend it, we would race away. Maybe occupying a target city will not forever be the fastest path to the next plase of existence; some cities are building up very strong defenses. But today, it appears the alliance with no name could call its shots and still pocket them.

Religion Column

(by the High Priestess, whose hair is a little whiter than before)

Little folk are fascinated by weather. We tell stories of worlds that wander from warm seasons to cool seasons, from dry seasons to wet seasons. Neither storytelling nor theatre are included in the classic list of little folk high arts (painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain), but stories are the low art that both amuses childen, and convinces adults to feed their lives to gods of war. Stories bring souls to pews. Little folk stories that begin "a long time ago in a world far away" usually have weather in them. And slightly more plausible stories that we hear today about the end of the world, or at least the end of neighboring factions have weather in them too; these stories report tornadoes emanating from unnaturally clear skies.

Last month, the first neighbors we ever met upon entering this world posted announcements that they would host a concert with real weather. I was busy preparing lessons for my confirmation classes so had not planned to attend, but when I heard a cry of "there is a cloud visible to the southeast, come out now, everyone come join the concert", my sisters and I all ran out to see the storm. The cloud was magnificent. From the distance, it looked like a great, dark anvil, an anvil the sword of a cloud giant could be forged upon. There is a hammer in the sky that matches that anvil; I saw it thrown. It was like seeing god. Perhaps we saw the thrower, and the thrower was a god. I was unworthy, my eyes were unprepared for the brilliance of a god's raiment. There was a loud noise and I was frightened and blinded. Scores of little folk advanced to the next plane of existence with each blindingly brilliant, terribly loud throw of that hammer. Perhaps, if we saw god, this was the brilliance of heaven opening to let some little folk into Valhalla? Should I have followed them? All our builders did. As did our entire translation bureau, and most of our government officials. The town is almost empty now. Apparently priestesses and quartermasters are less worthy in the eyes of god than builders? Why were none of us among the 226 little folk admitted into the next world?

LFLF Column

Are we malicious? A rumor has been going around that "sufficiently limitless incompetence is indistinguishable from malice". Are they talking about us? Is malicious a good thing or a bad thing? Malicious rhymes with delicious, so maybe this rumor is about our biscuits? We really do have delicious biscuits at our meetings. And you can eat our biscuits whether you secretly worship the High Priestess' religion or not. All are welcome at the meeting of the anarchic republic of southern little folk. Help us gum up the wheels of government with endless discussions about what color to paint our wagons.

Old Guard Column
----------------

The town of Yazhdur is still held by the old City Guard. It is a peaceful place. None except the old City Guard carry weapons. The revealing livery of at least 9 factions may be seen there, and there are a few others who keep their colors hidden under their burqas or purdahs.

The City Guard defend any who are attacked. That must mean The Guardsmen consider all of us their allies. So the City Guard should accept gifts from us. I shall walk to Yazhdur and

     give 45 all xxxx_amulets

It is a long walk through dangerous territory, but it would be worth it to have a place to safely relax with a cup of tea, and some of the LFLF biscuits. And besides, it will give me months of stories for the Times.

Peace Column

Maybe I should join the old Guard Columnist in his (or her?) migration to Yazhdur? It is a long walk, through dangerous lands, but if I got there, I could relax, the peace maintained by the old City Guard.

     "I know! Shameless!"
"What is even happening? And Tyre with his chest hair just all out in the breeze? The youth in this town - I can't even."
     "In my day...."

The Children of the Four Winds wish peace on earth and goodwill to all men. Note this excludes citizens of Atlantis, especially the horde of orcs heading my way.

Utuk'ku knows that charisma is not her forte, but she is not trying to create warm feelings, she is trying to propose a path to combat the brutal efficiency of the alliance of five. For anyone still able to do it, pick one single bannerman and vote for it! 38 is a choice as good as any other; she can follow any other suggestion, but time is running short for lengthy discussions.

Good people of this world,
Orc invasion grows in strength. They are brutal but cunning, Aware of the fact that nations are devided and no single nation, not even a single alliance is able to achieve victory without turning on each other. But doing so would only weaken everyone and make things easier for those barbarians.
There are two ways of losing - being invaded by orcs or through inactivity. You can hide, build impenetrable defences, nothing matters. Because all it takes is just to ignore you and take the other half of the world.
Yet the victory of the good people is trivial and really is at hand. Just rename your cities immediately. Obviously you're afraid of becoming a target of neighbours. True only if you become egoistic and promote yourself. No, choose the one who deserves it the most. And who other deserves immortalising more than the humble little folk. Rename all your settlements for little folk. Simples.
You won't look weak doing so, it's just a elegant solution to a stinky problem (yes, our spies brought many reports and one thing is certain - orcs stink of onions and never wash themselves). In fact, refraining from doing joining the effort will make you look weak and isolated - a prime target for those barbarians.

The shadows over Volwaz grew darker. The rogues had worked in shadows far from others on their own business, but now others had come to them. The ravens had found them and arrived threateningly with big bows and magical artifact. But did they really wanted earn the mark of death?!

Some folks at the inn where gossiping that banners of support for the "little folk" are held high on multiple cities.
