Our Eldest's Column
-------------------

Good Mr. Hagen roasted the little folk liberation front members south of the Tala. I'm unsure whether I should be sad or glad. I am sad that little folk died. I'm sad that anyone died. On the other hand, I'm glad that the little folk liberation front will now see that governing is not as easy as it looks. On the other other hand (why can't we recruit anyone with more than two hands? Can we recruit a kraken?), I don't really want to be governing at all, so I was hoping the revolution in the south would be a great success and get me out of this job.

Religion Column
---------------

The gods must have meant for us to fight, they gave us more kinds of weapons and armor than spices or hairstyles. After Good Mr. Hagen posted his challenge, we had hoped a ritual combat between champions might settle our gods' craving for blood. But another month has passed with none offering the faction who put Beastmasters on their flags an invitation to visit their mages. We fear ritual combat between champions, so instead we saw one thousand, one hundred and fifty nine common soldiers die in battle last month. Blood will be spilled one way or the other.

Stockwood Column
----------------

The story did not end with the arrival of the garlic army to defend the privacy of one Corvin Raven peasant. After a garlic army's appearance, the good citizens of Stockwood, at least the little folk citizens, gathered together and politely informed the Old City Guard that Stockwood was now governed by Corvin Ravens. As we were talking to them, some of Good Mr. Hagen's Thane's Ring Spirits attacked the Old City Guard. We were drawn into the ensuing melee as attackers, and two of us even slew guardsmen. We celebrated our victory fighting on the same side as the garlic army. Perhaps our killing a few Old City Guards fighting side by side with the Nazgul would mean that the new overlords of Stockwood would allow the little folk to produce and beg alms here. There were discussions about erecting garlic statues, composing a garlic symphony, and a play about garlic's virtues. These discussions were short. After fighting beside us against the Old City Guard, Thane's Ring Spirits attacked the little folk. 116 fireballs fried 251 little folk. Another 68 were cut and cauterized by flaming swords. Such is the fiery end of the little folk's long southward journey to Stockwood.

Fire Efficiency Column
----------------------

116 fireballs to kill 251 little folk is slightly more than 2 little folk per fireball. Had the little folk banded together like warriors, instead of fleeing like scared fairies, the Garlic Army of Thane's Ring Spirits should have been able to dispatch 251 little folk with less than half that number of fireballs. Boo to scared fairies; they are energy inefficient, and contribute to the sad warming of our world that prevents Stormspike from bringing winter every year. Little folk who want weather should band together, to minimize the number of fireballs used to dispatch them.

Beggars' Column
---------------

The beggars of Stockwood gathered together with the more respectable citizens to convince the Old City Guard that Stockwood was now governed by Corvin Ravens. We were unsure whether the Ravens and Good Mr. Hagen's Thane's Ring spirits would allow us to beg this month, because they were not numerous enough to collect all the alms the citizens of Stockwood would wish to give, or whether they would deny us license to beg, as part of their curfews and controls to restore order upon taking the city. So the beggars' guild had decided that most of us would seek honest unskilled labor for the month, while a few of us tried to satisfy the city's need for beggars to grant alms to. We were overjoyed when little folk, fighting beside the Thane's Ring Spirits, killed two of the guardsmen. We thought surely this would mean that our brothers and sisters who were allowed by the guild to beg instead of working would be granted license to collect the alms Thane's Ring spirits could not collect. We were horrified when the Thane's Ring Spirits proceeded to slay all the little folk, beggars and burghers alike. Perhaps the little folk liberation front have it right. Perhaps Good Mr. Hagen is less friendly than Our Eldest and the High Priestess would have us believe.

LFLF Column
-----------

There are still little folk liberation front meetings south of the Tala. Don't be scared off. Fireballs aren't dangerous. Particularly if they could only manage 116 of them against us, and fireballs kill less than two little folk apiece. There are lots of little folk liberation front members in the hills, and we still have lots of biscuits.

Now there are fireballs south of the Tala, too. If you can dodge all the fireballs, the little folk liberation front still has very good biscuits. Come join us for a discussion about how we can pin the blame for the roasting of Stockwood on Our Eldest and the High Priestess instead of on ourselves.

Kraken Column
-------------

The four horsemen are looking for a Kraken? We spotted one in the Tala river last month, eating little folk. It brought forth the most glorious weather. The sight of the wall cloud was so beautiful that all little folk witnesses transcended. If the four horsemen slay the kraken, will that prevent our world from developing weather? Why is weather only found around kraken and evil mages and the factions with Beastmasters on their flags?

Peace Column
------------

Why does the High Priestess keep talking about the gods craving blood? Doesn't she know that is no way to achieve peace, that telling soldiers they are feeding the gods will just encourage more war? If we are serious about peace, we simply need agreement about what flags to put up. If those who put Beastmasters on their flags and those who put little folk on their flags would compromise on some third flag and all together put that one up, I think we could have peace. Who could be the compromise candidate all sides might support who would bring an end to this war? It would have to be a faction that is closer to Beastmasters than Little Folk, so the Beastmaster flag wavers would agree, but far enough from Beastmasters that those who fly little folk flags would agree. The little folk peace columnist (thinks he) knows a faction closer to Beastmasters than little folk, but not generally considered a part of Beastmasters' alliance. Is that faction willing to publicly identify itself and stand as a compromise candidate?

Little Mechtan went out in search of weather and witnessed a wall cloud. The sight was so dizzying he transcended immediately. His relatives will now descend upon the spot in hopes of seeing similar natural marvels themselves. s

The Council of the Four Winds came together for the great ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the plaque with the capital's new name on it. Sadly, it turned out that you couldn't fit the plaque on a magic fortress, and you needed a castle or magical castle if you wanted to perform this for a city. The eldest councillor sighed, and insisted you used to be able to trust the documents you read.
