Ellor hefted the latest bundle on his shoulder and headed along the dock.  Ships were loading and unloading in a bustle of the busiest port in three months' sailing - spices for the east, pearls for the north, spoils from pirates and elementals from the offshore isles, and more mundane items for the wood-poor desert realms.

It was back-breaking work, but it paid.
