"Captain! Captain! Where is that blasted layabout! The gods' command you! CAPTAIN!"

The aforementioned officer paused in his thoughtful examination of the paper before him and cocked an eyebrow at the priest loping towards him.

Deliberately, he took a long draught from the pint glass on the table, then wiped his mouth on his sleeve, and leaned back on his chair with a deliberate insouciance.

"'Allo vicar! How goes the life of a bloke of the cloth?"

The priest drew up to the table, panting and sweating in his overrobes.

"Is it today, captain? Is it this day that my vision from Gork-Gruumsh shall be fulfilled, that we shall reap the bounty of the righteous in our faithful service to the Divine?"

The lanky orc made a mark on the paper with a particularly satisfied nod before replying

"Well guv, if we do, then I expect number 6 to come good in the 3:20 at Pelton Down racetrack." He sniffed, poured the last of his beer down his gullet, wiped his palms on his uniform trousers, and stood up with some really quite distressing cracking noises from his joints.

"Oooooh, not good vicar. Be kind to you knees, you'll miss them when they're gone. Right-'o! Let's go find Dave and see 'ow our 'erbalists are getting on. Unnatural occy-payshun for our kind, if you ask me..."

The officer folded the racing form under his arm and gestured for the priest to precede him.

Some minutes later, they crested a small rise to find the herbal party slogging back towards the camp. baskets bulging with their leafy burdens. The short orc in the lead threw a notably sloppy salute.

"Herbalist platoon reporting, sah. Mission accomplished."

The priest threw his arms wide, ululating with fervour, a wordless shout of triumph and glory, as the clouds above him parted and a shaft of sunlight flared across the tidal mud in a soundless explosion of revelation. The quest was complete.

"Brilliant, lads, well done. You an avatar of the Big Green now, vicar?" asked the officer.

The priest twitched and shook, still shaken by the intervention.

"No, but look at the gift bestowed upon us by our Gods!" He fell to his knees before the pile of rope, still gleaming with their holy origin, that lay upon the ground.

"Lassoes. In a swamp." The officer pursed his lips with a certain amount of scepticism. "You know, I fink I might go have a chat with some of the dark elves about that Spider Queen lass they were on about. I reckon she'd 'ave a use for some rope, know wot I mean vicar?"
